He is a photographer-artist. His pictures are both a dream of Africa and a meditation on the role of color in a racial as well as pictorial sense.
He photographs professional child models in his studio along with detailed images of leaves, flowers, plants and animals. The pictures are then mixed and composed into Rousseau-like edenic settings using Photoshop.
Mixing truth and fiction, innocence and danger, van Empel’s work contains complex pictorial and political underpinnings while bursting with color.

Japanse kunstenares, Yayoi Kusama (草間 彌生,Kusama Yayoi

"...a polka dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing. Polka dots become movement... Polka dots are a way to infinity."

Yayoi maakte in de internationale kunstwereld furore met haar ruimtevullende installaties, waarin de bezoeker wordt omgeven door duizenden kleurrijke, kleine, opgevulde – vaak fallische – textiele objecten.

Infinity Mirror Room – Phalli’s Field (1965) is de eerste installatie waarin Yayoi Kusama gebruik maakt van spiegels; een materiaal dat zij haar leven lang zal blijven gebruiken en dat samen met haar zogenaamde ‘dots’ een essentieel aspect in Kusama’s oeuvre vormt. De ruimtevullende installaties van Kusama staan aan de basis van een inmiddels wijdverbreide traditie van ‘environments’ in de kunst.

Lustrum KUNST IN DE BERGEN

Elk jaar op een weekend in april wordt de expositie "Kunst in de Bergen" georganiseerd.

In deze wijk in het centrum van Eindhoven wonen verschillende kunstenaars en op deze manier komen ze een keer per jaar met hun werk bijelkaar.

In het weekend van 15, 16 en 17 april 2011 kan de expositie bezocht worden op:
Vrijdagavond is de opening om 19.00 uur
Zaterdag en zondag open van 12.00 - 17.00 uur

De koningin die niet kon kiezen

Welke jurk zou ze vandaag aandoen? Zou ze op de fiets gaan, of met de koets? En wie moest er een standbeeld van haar maken? Ze kon niet kiezen!

Het Gemeentemuseum Den Haag laat in de kindermuseumzaal de originele illustraties van het boek en verschillende objecten uit de eigen collectie zien.

Veelbekroond prentenboekillustrator en –schrijver Annemarie van Haeringen bekend door haar boeken De Prinses met de lange haren, Malmok, Beer is op vlinder of de serie rondom Kleine Ezel. Haar illustraties zijn helder van kleur en nemen de lezer mee in een betoverende wereld. In het museum zijn de originele prenten, Van Haeringens schetsboek en een keuze uit haar voorstudies te zien van het prentenboek De koningin die niet kon kiezen. Deze worden gecombineerd met sculpturen van bijvoorbeeld Barbara Hepworth, Auke de Vries en David Bade en prachtige jurken van onder anderen Fong Leng Tsang

	The State of L3
		The State of L3 is een project dat de verbinding tussen de continenten Afrika, Zuid-Amerika en Europa zoekt, door de Afrikaanse identiteit van en verwantschap tussen kunstenaars en jongeren op die continenten. Het is een project over pan-Afrikanisme, over multimedianetwerken en over een pan-Afrikaans collectief voor hedendaagse kunst en film. Een tentoonstelling door Antonio Jose Guzman en The State of L3 Contemporary Arts & Film. Antonio Jose Guzman audiovisuele kunstenaar met thema’s zoals DNA, migratie en zwaartekracht
